College Schmollege

What colleges have you attended?

Well. THIS one’s gonna be a shorty because the universe has informed me in myriad ways that the hallowed halls of higher education are not for the likes of me.

I dropped out of high school after my grade 10 social studies teacher screamed at me in the middle of the hallway that I wasn’t even worth teaching, because he wanted to sleep with me and I threatened to tell his wife.

After that I went on to the local technical college and took every single web design course they offered which, in the late 90s, weren’t many but were enough that I still do it today. They would have been considerably more useful, though, if I’d taken them about 4 years later once they became a degree program instead of the loose affiliation of classes they were that nobody took seriously.

Then I spent 25 years having children, homeschooling them, raising them to adulthood, and working my way into the highest level job at my company I could get that’s tech-adjacent and willing to take “or equivalent experience” instead of needing the degree.

As it stands now, I’m currently enrolled in an online university for their bachelor’s in Computing and Information Systems with a minor in Geoscience, but I can’t actually afford to attend so…
