The most important invention in your lifetime is…
There have been a lot of big inventions during my lifetime. While PCs, GPS, and cellular technology each pre-date me by a year or two, smartphones, the web, EVs, and a lot of green tech came into being during my lifetime. Those are all big but, I would argue, not necessarily the most important.
Speaking as a wholly biased person, every single medical advancement, discovery, treatment, and invention developed in the last 44 years is more important than any of those, both to the people whose lives they improve, and to the friends and families of those people.
Some notable inclusions, though definitely not an exhaustive list are:
- MRI technology
- Insulin pumps
- Advancements in prosthetics
- AIDS/HIV treatment
- Microsurgery
- Increasing viability of very premature babies
- Mapping the human genome
