What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?
My favorite holiday, for many reasons, is Christmas.
I love the feeling of anticipation and straight-up joy I get from the advent season. Every year, I try to find a new advent Bible study to help give me a fresh perspective on the season. And the sense of deep inner peace and calm I get from lighting the candles and having a good, long pray over them every week is exactly what I need to center myself going into the new year.
I also love for the more secular seasonal goodness. Christmas carols, Santa Claus parades, decorating the tree, curling up with my duvet to marathon awful hallmark movies… and please know, I don’t say this to disparage hallmark movies in general. I go out of my way to find the worst-rated ones to watch. The awfulness is the point.
But my favorite thing is giving gifts. Or, more precisely, watching people open the gifts I give them. Then eating 15 lb of stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy and going into a food coma for 72 hours.
